The Parkour
Coach Certification
Pathway
A complete, progressive education system for parkour coaches — from your first qualification to Master Coach level and beyond. Built on the experience of the discipline’s founders. Recognised internationally since 2008.
How the Pathway Works
Every ADAPT course builds on the one before it. The system is designed to develop you progressively — not just as a coach, but as a practitioner and a professional.
ADAPT is not a box-ticking system. Every course involves intensive practical coaching alongside theory sessions, centred on our signature micro-teach format — short coaching interventions followed by structured group feedback that trains you to see, analyse and improve coaching in real time.
The assessments are rigorous. Passing is not guaranteed, because we believe that anyone taking responsibility for teaching others a physical discipline should be able to demonstrate genuine competence, not just attendance. We hold ourselves to the same standard we expect of you.
The pathway progresses from Level 1 through to Level 3 Master Coach, with optional CPD courses available to certified coaches at any stage. For those who want to take the next step, Coach Educator certifications are available from Level 3 onwards.
Each level builds directly on the knowledge and experience of the one before. You cannot skip levels.
Every level involves practical coaching observation and a written assessment. Passing is earned, not given.
The same standard applies in every country. An ADAPT Level 2 means the same thing in Seoul as it does in London.
Accredited by EQF, ACE, NASM, AFAA, Sport England, UISP Italy and the UK CPD Standards Office.
Young ADAPT Award
Introduction to coaching & movement developmentYoung ADAPT is designed for young people aged 7–15 with aspirations of a future in parkour coaching or movement education. It is a complete programme focused on independent learning, self-evaluation and the early development of coaching thinking.
The Award is split into 7 levels of achievement, each centred on improving movement capabilities through progressively challenging tasks. Participants are guided through self-assessment, practical development and goal-setting, building confidence, resilience, self-efficacy and mindfulness in a supportive group environment.
We strongly recommend attending multiple Young ADAPT events across a young person’s development to gain the full benefit of the programme.
- Independent learning and self-evaluation skills
- Physical confidence and movement capability
- Goal-setting and reflective practice
- Resilience and self-efficacy
- Early foundations of coaching awareness
Ground Level Award
The foundation you need. The understanding that changes everything. The ADAPT Ground Level Award (GLA) is a 2-day movement and theory course designed to introduce the movement methodology of parkour being and to give you the raw materials to prepare for the Level 1 Parkour Coach Certification. It is the first qualification in the ADAPT pathway, and an optional one. It is not a coaching certification.
Where the L1CC focuses on coaching science, pedagogy and instructional delivery, the GLA focuses on what candidates know and understand about parkour itself: its movements, mechanics, physical demands, history and principles. Most people who want to become parkour coaches don’t lack enthusiasm; they lack a clear, structured foundation. The GLA was designed specifically to close that gap.
The majority of the course is practical. Seven dedicated Core Techniques sessions run throughout both days, covering the full foundational movement vocabulary of parkour. Theory sessions — kept short and purposeful — cover biomechanics, sport science, movement principles and an introduction to the Level 1 Coach Certification.
The course ends with a 30-minute Written Reflection Task completed on-site. No specific prior parkour experience is required — some background in physical activity is recommended.
- Landings, drops, precision jumps and the parkour roll
- Foundation vaults, arm jump, climb-up, wall run and underbar
- Rail balance, quadrupedal movements and movement linking
- History, philosophy and culture of parkour
- Applied biomechanics: force absorption, momentum, lever mechanics
- Sport science: muscle groups, tendon adaptation, training load
- Movement variability and adaptation principles
- Introduction to the L1CC and how to prepare for it
Level 1 Coach Certificate
Foundation Coach — L1CCThe Level 1 Coach Certificate is the entry point to professional parkour coaching. Over three intensive days, you will develop the foundational principles of the coaching process — how people learn, how to structure sessions, how to manage groups, and how to create effective learning environments.
The third day is an active assessment: practical coaching observations and a written paper. Candidates who do not meet the standard on any element receive a deferral on that element, with the opportunity to resit.
After the course, you complete a required number of supervised coaching sessions with a certified ADAPT Level 2 or Level 3 coach. These must be completed within 12 months of your course end date and can be done in person or via video submission.
Minimum age to receive the certificate is 16. Prior coaching experience is useful but not required — you do need a solid grounding in parkour practice.
- Manage the basic components of a class and create effective learning environments
- Understand and apply the session planning process
- Work collaboratively with other coaches to deliver session aims
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of fundamental coaching and learning principles
- Operate safely and professionally in a range of parkour coaching settings
Level 2 Coach Certificate
Lead Coach — L2CCThe Level 2 is a genuinely demanding qualification — a 5-day training course followed by a separate 2-day assessment, undertaken no earlier than 3 months after training. Between the two, you complete 40 reflective coaching hours.
Level 2 goes deep into pedagogy, coaching science and the science of expertise. Alongside the theory, you will prepare for the Parkour Competence Assessment, which requires you to demonstrate a high level of practical movement ability as well as coaching skill.
We recommend a minimum of 3–5 years of regular, committed parkour practice before attempting Level 2. The standard is high and is intended to be. Level 2 coaches are expected to be genuine role models — in their movement, their conduct, and their coaching.
Prerequisites: ADAPT Level 1 Coach Certificate. Minimum age 18.
- Lead parkour sessions independently across all settings and ability levels
- Demonstrate and explain all fundamental movements and parkour principles
- Plan, implement and evaluate sessions both indoors and outdoors
- Supervise and support Level 1 Coaches
- Apply coaching science knowledge to provide meaningful feedback
- Act as a role model for practitioners, parents and other coaches
Level 3 Master Coach Certificate
Master Coach — L3CCThe Level 3 Master Coach Certificate is the highest ADAPT coaching qualification. It is designed for coaches who have reached the level of genuine expertise — not just in coaching skill, but in leadership, programme design, and the ability to develop other coaches.
Prerequisites are demanding: ADAPT Level 2 certification, a minimum of 3 years as a practising Level 2 coach, and 500 logged coaching hours.
After the 3-day course, candidates must, within 24 months, provide: evidence of leading a large-scale parkour event (50+ attendees); delivery of a 4-hour Expert Workshop to 6 or more participants; and a 3,000-word dissertation on a topic agreed with the course tutor.
There are currently 47 certified Level 3 coaches worldwide.
- Lead sessions and supervise coaches at all levels below them
- Programme for short and long-cycle coaching development
- Plan, recruit, develop and retain coaching teams
