Level 1 Coach Certification
Video Assessment Guidance
In certain circumstances, ADAPT Qualifications permits video submission as an alternative to in-person assessment for components of the Level 1 Coach Certification post-course requirements. This page explains when video assessment applies, what is required, and how to submit correctly.
When does video assessment apply?
The standard route for completing your Level 1 post-course supervised coaching sessions is in-person, under the direct observation of a certified ADAPT Level 2 or Level 3 Coach. This remains the preferred method and should be pursued wherever possible.
Video submission of supervised sessions is permitted in the following circumstances:
No qualified coach nearby. You are based in a region where there is no accessible ADAPT Level 2 or Level 3 Coach able to observe your sessions in person.
Exceptional practical circumstances. There are exceptional, documented circumstances that make in-person supervision impractical — for example, significant geographical isolation, or a temporary but serious restriction on travel.
Prior approval granted. You have contacted ADAPT Qualifications in advance and received written confirmation that video submission is approved for your specific situation.
Video submissions will not be accepted without prior written approval from ADAPT Qualifications. Do not film sessions with the intention of submitting them as assessments without first confirming with us that this route is available to you.
What is being assessed?
The Level 1 post-course supervised sessions assess your ability to assist in the delivery of a parkour coaching session to an appropriate standard, as defined by the ADAPT Level 1 competency framework. Your Tutor or assigned reviewer will evaluate the submission against the same criteria used in in-person assessment.
You are able to manage the basic components of a coaching session — opening, transitions, maintaining attention, and closing. The environment is organised and appropriate for the activity.
You communicate clearly and appropriately with participants of varying ability. Instructions are accurate, well-timed, and adapted to the needs of the group.
You demonstrate active awareness of participant safety throughout the session. You identify and manage risks in a calm and competent manner consistent with ADAPT coaching standards.
You work effectively as part of a coaching team — supporting the lead coach, fulfilling delegated tasks, and maintaining your role within the session structure.
Participants are actively engaged throughout the session. You respond to learner feedback and adapt your coaching in the moment where appropriate.
You demonstrate accurate understanding of the parkour movements and concepts covered in the session, and can communicate them in a way that is appropriate and accessible to the participants.
Technical requirements for your video
Minimum session length
Each submitted session must be a minimum of 60 minutes in length. Shorter sessions will not be accepted.
Continuous recording
The recording must be continuous throughout the session. Edited or cut footage will not be accepted.
Audio quality
The audio must be clear enough for the reviewer to hear your verbal communication with participants throughout.
Camera position
Position the camera to capture as much of the coaching space as possible. You and your participants must be clearly visible for the majority of the session.
File format
Submit video files in MP4, MOV, or via a private YouTube or Vimeo link. File transfers via WeTransfer are also accepted.
Privacy and consent
You must obtain consent from all participants (or their guardians, if under 18) before filming. Confirm this in writing when you submit.
Consent and safeguarding
Filming participants — particularly children and young people — carries significant safeguarding and data protection responsibilities. Before recording any session, you must:
Obtain written consent from every participant (or from a parent or guardian for participants under 18) specifically for the purpose of recording the session for ADAPT assessment purposes.
Make clear to participants how the footage will be used, who will view it, and that it will not be shared publicly or used for any other purpose.
Ensure the footage is stored securely and only accessible to you and the ADAPT reviewer. Delete the footage once the assessment has been completed.
Confirm in your submission email that all necessary consents have been obtained and that the session was conducted in line with ADAPT's safeguarding standards.
If any participant — including a minor — does not consent to being filmed, that person must not appear in the footage. You will need to arrange an alternative session or an alternative assessment route for that component.
How to submit your video assessment
Confirm approval with ADAPT
Before recording, contact ADAPT Qualifications at info@adaptqualifications.com to confirm that video submission is approved for your situation. Include your name, course date, and a brief explanation of your circumstances.
Plan and record your sessions
Record a minimum of the required number of supervised sessions (refer to your Learner Pack for the exact number — typically up to 10 sessions, each of at least 60 minutes). Each session should be planned in advance and reflect the ADAPT Level 1 standard.
Complete your Supervised Session Log
For each recorded session, complete an entry in your Supervised Session Log as you would for an in-person session. Include the date, location, number and age range of participants, session aims, and a brief reflection. This log must be submitted alongside your video footage.
Submit your footage and documentation
Email your submission to info@adaptqualifications.com with the subject line "L1 Video Assessment — [Your Name]". Include: a link to your video(s) or file transfer; your completed Supervised Session Log; confirmation that participant consent was obtained; and your course date and location.
Review and outcome
Your footage will be reviewed by an assigned ADAPT Level 2 or Level 3 assessor within 15 working days of submission. You will receive written feedback and a pass/refer outcome for each session. If a session does not meet the required standard, you will be given specific guidance and the opportunity to submit a replacement recording.
Deadlines and timelines
All Level 1 post-course requirements — including video-submitted supervised sessions — must be completed and submitted within 12 months of the first day of your course. This deadline cannot normally be extended.
Allow sufficient time for the review process. Submissions received within the final 15 working days of your deadline may not receive feedback before the deadline expires. Submit early.
If you are approaching your 12-month deadline and have not yet completed your supervised sessions, contact ADAPT Qualifications as soon as possible. We may be able to discuss options, but extensions are not guaranteed and must be agreed in writing before the deadline passes.
