REASONABLE ADJUSTMENT POLICY
ADAPT Qualifications is committed to making our certification courses accessible to all learners. If you have a disability, long-term health condition, learning difference, or other significant circumstance that may affect your ability to demonstrate your knowledge and skills under standard assessment conditions, you may be entitled to a reasonable adjustment.
What is a reasonable adjustment?
A reasonable adjustment is a change to the standard assessment conditions or format that enables a learner to demonstrate their competence on an equal basis with other learners. Adjustments do not lower the standard of the qualification ā they remove barriers that are unrelated to the knowledge and skills being assessed.
Reasonable adjustments must be requested and approved in advance. They cannot be applied retrospectively to an assessment that has already been completed.
Examples of adjustments
Every request is considered individually. The following are examples of adjustments that ADAPT may be able to provide, subject to the nature of the assessment and practical feasibility:
Extra time
Additional time for written assessment components for learners with dyslexia, processing difficulties, or other relevant conditions.
Alternative format
Written assessment materials provided in large print, or the option to give oral responses in lieu of written ones where appropriate.
Modified practical requirements
Adjustments to physical requirements of the practical assessment for learners with a relevant disability or injury, where the core competency can still be demonstrated.
Language support
Use of a bilingual dictionary or additional time for learners whose first language is not the language of instruction.
Rest breaks
Scheduled additional rest breaks during assessments for learners with relevant health conditions.
Remote or video submission
Completion of certain assessment components remotely or via video submission where in-person attendance presents a significant barrier.
ADAPT will always seek to accommodate reasonable requests. However, adjustments cannot be made where they would compromise the fundamental competency being assessed, or where they would give an unfair advantage over other learners demonstrating the same qualification standard.
How to request an adjustment
Submit your request in advance
Requests must be submitted at least 10 working days before the start of your course. This gives ADAPT Qualifications and the course Tutor sufficient time to consider and implement any approved adjustments. Requests submitted after this deadline may not be possible to accommodate.
Complete the Reasonable Adjustment Request Form
Use the form on this page to provide details of your circumstances, the adjustment you are requesting, and any supporting evidence. Supporting evidence might include a medical letter, educational psychology report, or similar documentation. You do not need to share a full diagnosis ā a brief description of how your condition affects you in an assessment context is sufficient.
ADAPT reviews your request
Your request will be reviewed by ADAPT Qualifications within 5 working days. We will confirm whether the adjustment can be provided as requested, offer an alternative, or explain why it is not possible in this case. All requests are treated confidentially.
Approval is confirmed in writing
If your adjustment is approved, you will receive written confirmation to bring with you to the course. Your Tutor will be briefed on the approved adjustment in advance. The adjustment will be applied consistently across all relevant assessment components during your course.
